Position Description: The Upper Sugar River Watershed Association (Upper Sugar), a Wisconsin based non-profit organization, is seeking two part-time Conservation Outreach Technicians. Upper Sugar is looking for passionate and professional individuals to carry out invasive species outreach campaigns at boat launches and water access points for the 2026 recreation season in southern Wisconsin.
If you want to use your voice for a good cause, you like to be by water, and you are seeking experience conducting public outreach, education, and conservation with a vibrant grassroots conservation non-profit, this opportunity may be for you.
Compensation: $17.00/hour
Work Schedule: 15-20 hours/week from May 23, 2026 through August 31, 2026. Due to the timing of reaching our target audience, availability to work some weekends and holidays (Memorial day and July 4th) is required. Flexibility around the start and end dates and weekly work schedule is possible with an emphasis on working during times of high volume use of boat launches.
Duties: Primary duties of these positions include outdoor work implementing Clean Boats Clean Waters boater outreach and education communication at boat launches. Other tasks include Wisconsin aquatic invasive species monitoring, and data collection and reporting. Participation in other projects is possible if aligned with the interest of the applicant and the needs of Upper Sugar.
Desired Qualifications:
❏ Interest in conservation
❏ Reliability while conducting projects independently toward a team goal
❏ Comfortable conducting in-person outreach and education by having conversations with boating and fishing recreationists like families and anglers in public spaces
❏ Effective professional communicator both in person and in digital correspondence
❏ Organization and attention to detail regarding collecting and entering data into a database
❏ Willingness to work outside in summer weather conditions in Southern Wisconsin
Work Locations: The Upper Sugar office is located at 207 E. Main Street in downtown Mt. Horeb, WI. However, work will be conducted remotely and at field locations like boat launches. These 4 field locations are listed below. A Valid Drivers License is Required. Reliable car transportation for accessing remote work sites is required.

Outreach will occur at the following 4 landings for at least 100 hours of education at each. Please note that these sites are approximately 30-70 minutes drive from the Madison area.
